Kasena-Nankana: Work on Nyangua Bridge resumes after break

Work on a major bridge being constructed by Joseph Kofi Adda, Member of Parliament for Navrongo Central in Nyangua a community in the Kasena-Nankana Municipal Assembly of the Upper East Region has kicked off in earnest after months of inactivity at the site.

Our Reporter, Senyalah Castro, reports that the contractor who had left site after the rains set in last year, has moved back with all resources and major works on the foundation and walls of the bridge have commenced with all seriousness.

Construction and repair works on other minor bridges within the Navrongo area being executed by the same contractor, he reports, have also commenced with a few already finished and in use.

The rest are expected to be completed before the onset of the rainy season.

Site engineer of CJC Construction Company Limited, David Kotoka, who was on site at Nyangua when the news team visited, assured residents in an interview that the Nyangua Bridge will be completed within schedule and handed over for use this year.

He explained that work stopped last year because they could not complete the projects before the rains started. According to him, though the company could have continued despite the rains, they saw it important for them to halt all construction works on the facility so as not to do a poor job.

He assured that the facility will be ready for use in two months’ time.

“We started late last year somewhere in April. We started work hoping that we will complete the bridge before the rainy season. But we could not finish the job as scheduled. So the rains started giving us problems and we had to stop work”, He said.

“We didn’t want to continue working with the bad weather because that could affect the quality of the bridge. We agreed that we stop the work till the rains are over. But now that we are in the dry season, we will do our best to complete the job. In two months, the bridge will be set and ready for use”. He added.

Meanwhile, the regent of Nyangua, Apuri Robert Akiyalem, has said the commitment of Joseph Kofi Adda, Member of Parliament for Navrongo Central, to infrastructure development is exemplary and commendable.

According to him, the return of the contractors to complete the major bridge to eliminate the suffering of the people in the area alone is enough evidences to show that Mr. Adda truly cares about the community and his subjects.

He noted that the absence of the bridge has long been a top priority and headache of Nyangua and other surrounding communities and its completion will bring great joy and propel development.

Mr. Apuri Robert Akiyalem was happy that the bridge will end the unnecessary deaths recorded in the area during the rainy season when commuters cross the streams.

Although the project is still under construction, residents are already living their dream of having a bridge across the stream.

They have expressed joy and are hopeful the completion of the bridge will mean a new era for Nyangua and other areas along that route.
