It's not too early to chose next presidential candidate-NPP communicator

A National Communications Team Member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Kofi Antwi, says it is not too early for the party to choose a presidential candidate to succeed President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo right after winning the 2020 election.

According to him, the party will have enough time to market whoever is chosen, underscoring the need to choose the next candidate early after ensuring President Akufo-Addo secured two terms in power.

Speaking on Atinka TV’s morning show, Ghana Nie hosted by Nana Owusu Nkrumah, Mr Antwi said, “Politics is a continuous project; as soon as something happens, something must continue. The seat is there and the people are also there so as soon as someone leaves, someone will have to occupy it.”

He noted that Alan Kyeremanteng started vying for the position of a flagbearer with Akufo-Addo from 2007 till 2015 whiles Bawumia on the other hand has performed well, adding that the two of them are good enough to take over from Akufo-Addo.

Mr. Antwi added, “This time, we are looking at who is coming, we are done with Nana Addo’s tenure, and now we have to prepare someone to take over.”

“It is not illegal if Bawumia or Alan is chosen now . It depends on the party to choose who will go,” he said.

He urged the NPP not to involve tribalism in their quest to chose their next flagbearer.

“If we don’t start early, it will not help us. In 2020 we delayed and it nearly affected the party. If you nominate your candidate three months before election, how do you sell him?,” he quizzed.
