“I'll build technical universities in new regions”- Mahama

Former President John Mahama has promised to build technical and vocational universities in all the six new regions if he wins the 2020 election.
Speaking at the launch of digital platforms for donations to the party’s campaign, he said he will build and operationalise new public universities which will have campuses in each of the six new regions.
The new universities will focus on Technical, Vocational and engineering programmes.
He added that, the purpose of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) is to equip people with the technical and professional skills needed for socioeconomic and industrial development of the country.
“Our TVET programs has been well considered to address two main challenges , the first to fix the imbalance and the gap that exists  between top and bottom manpower requirement especially those with technical skills. It is designed to produce young people with cutting-edge technical knowledge which we are need of in many sectors of  our economy  including our oil and gas sector.  The second challenge is  to tackle the worsening unemployment situation by providing  our young people with the requisite skills that enable them to be self-employment instead of only relying on government,” Mahama added.
