IGP launches motorbike patrols

The Inspector General of Police, David Asante Apeatu, on Friday launched the Motorbike Patrols For Neighborhood Safety Programme.

The IGP explained that the advent of the usage of motorbikes in perpetuating violent crimes pushed the Police Administration to create the special squad who are trained with the capacity to respond adequately and bring to book social miscreants who think they can be smarter on motorbikes.

The programme involves "a 59-man squad who  has been taken through defensive riding and crime combat training". According to him, this is the first batch and many more are being screened to beef up.

"The intention of the Police Administration is to replicate this squad in all 11 police regions," Mr. Apeatu said.

“It is a high-risk training designed, developed and delivered to prepare the officers to respond swiftly and robustly to crime scenes that hitherto were inaccessible by the Police Patrol Team” the IGP added.
