Highways without bridges make ‘no engineering sense’- GPCC scribe fires

Acting General Secretary of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC), Rt. Rev. Samuel N. Mensah has said that it makes “no engineering sense” for government to construct roads and later solicit for funds to build footbridges over them.

According to Rev. Mensah, current and previous government ignore the human factor when constructing roads and that this wrong attitude has led to recent deaths on the roads.
“ How do we then use those roads without taking into consideration the human factor and we sit down for lives to be wasted for the past years?” he fired.

Speaking in an interview with Atinka FM’s Kennedy Obeng, Rev. Mensah noted that ignorance on part of the government gives the impression that past and present administrations don’t care about human lives.

“It gives the impression that past and previous government don’t care about human lives” he had said.

“Why must we construct roads knowing very well that such highways must have bridges but will complete the roads and ignore the bridges, which later become threats to human lives?. This, He said there is no Engineering and common sense.

He, however, noted that government should come out with timelines to work on all other uncompleted footbridges on all highways in the country.

“No highways must be constructed without footbridges,” Rev. Mensah stressed.
He urged the government to place a ban on the importation and local conversion of cargo cars into passenger cars.  This, according to him, is a major cause of road accident in the country.

“At least, let’s raise our standards a little bit more to international standards and let’s respect the lives of human beings,” he pleaded.
