GRA to tax church businesses, not churches – Kofi Nti

The Commissioner General at the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Emmanuel Kofi Nti, says his outfit is putting measures in place to tax church business and not the churches themselves.

The influx of businesses in most Churches in Ghana has brought to the fore, the need for these sacred establishments to pay taxes.

Speaking on Atinka FM’s morning show with Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive, Emmanuel Kofi Nti explained that churches that run other business other than the usual worshippers in the church get extra income which requires that they pay taxes.

According to him, GRA is not taxing the church but other businesses the churches run separately from the main church.

He reiterated that most of these churches run schools, cafeterias, supermarkets etc. which are also businesses on their own.

He added that because these side businesses are in the name of the church, it is required of the Church to pay taxes on those businesses.
