GJA opens nominations for 25th GJA Media Awards

The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has opened nominations for the 25th GJA Media Awards from Wednesday, July 29, 2020 to Friday, September 9, 2020.
The opening of the 25th GJA Media Awards was officially announced by the President of the GJA, Affail Monney, at a launching ceremony at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel on Wednesday, July 29, 2020.
The awards are open to GJA members working in the Ghanaian media establishments, and cover broadcast or published works from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2019.
The GJA Awards are normally opened for entries of works broadcast or published in the year preceding the year in which the awards are held.
But according to the GJA,”Due to the overwhelming circumstance of the COVID-19 pandemic, the GJA is making an exception to the rule above, this year, to open nominations for awards in ‘Exceptional COVID-19 Coverage’ to cover broadcast or published works from March 1, 2020 to August 31, 2020.”

GJA Opens Nomination For 25th Media Awards
 
ACCRA, August 2, 2020 (GJA) – The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has opened nominations for the 25th GJA Media Awards from Wednesday, July 29, 2020 to Friday, September 9, 2020.
 
The opening of the 25th GJA Media Awards was officially announced by the President of the GJA, Affail Monney, at a launching ceremony at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel on Wednesday, July 29, 2020.
 
The awards are open to GJA members working in the Ghanaian media establishments, and cover broadcast or published works from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2019.
 
The GJA Awards are normally opened for entries of works broadcast or published in the year preceding the year in which the awards are held.
 
However, due to the overwhelming circumstance of the COVID-19 pandemic, the GJA is making an exception to the rule above, this year, to open nominations for awards in ‘Exceptional COVID-19 Coverage’ to cover broadcast or published works from March 1, 2020 to August 31, 2020.
 
The essence of this special award category as an exception to the rule is to recognize and appreciate the efforts of journalists and media institutions who are making tremendous sacrifices, sometimes at the peril of their lives, to cover the pandemic, and to motivate them to be more committed to the fight against same in what seems to be daunting periods ahead in the nation’s quest to defeat coronavirus.
 
The following are details of the award categories and the rules governing the filing of entries:

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
 
The competition is open to members working in the print (News Agency inclusive), electronic and on-line media in Ghana.
 
Members of the National Executive and the Awards Committee are not eligible to contest. Entrants must meet the following additional requirements:
 

  1. Entries should cover works published from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2019;

 

  1. Entrants may submit NOT MORE THAN TWO published works in each category;

 

  1. However, one work SHALL NOT be entered in MORE THAN ONE CATEGORY;

 

  1. Entrants should submit CLEAR ORIGINAL published work and FIVE (5) photocopies of each entry;

 

  1. All entries must show the date of publication/broadcast and the medium in which the work was published. News Agency stories carried by the conventional media or on the Internet shall be considered as published;

 

  1. Radio and TV entrants should submit ONE AUDIO RECORDING (CD/DVD) in addition to FIVE (5) AUTHENTICATED COPIES of the original broadcast script;

 

  1. Photographic and cartoon entries are subjected to the same requirements as print entries;

 

  1. Every entry should clearly indicate the category of competition and must bear the name, address, and telephone number of the entrant;

 

  1. Entries may be uploaded online at gjaawards.com, and entrants who wish to use the online platform for submission, may upload ONLY ONE ORIGINAL COPY of their work in each category entered. The GJA encourages entrants to use the online submission platform as first and preferred option in order to minimise human contact and the risk COVID-19 infection.

 
 

  1. oJournalist of the Year – GJA members and the general public are invited to nominate candidates, giving reason(s) for their nomination in not more than 120 words.

 
The deadline for the submission of entries is 5:00 p.m. on Friday, September 9, 2020.

Entries may also be delivered direct to the Ghana International Press Centre, Accra.
 
Please note that the GJA is NOT bound to give an award in a category if it does not merit one.
