GIJ’s Stephen Bernard wins 2021 CSA Best Student in Online Journalism & Student TV Host of the Year

A student of the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ), Stephen Bernard Donkor has been crowned the 2021 Best Student in Online Journalism and Student TV Host of the year in the 2nd Edition of the Communication Students’ Awards (CSA).

The awards ceremony was a programme designed by the Sky Infinity Group to help empower and appreciate the works of Communication students across the length and breadth of the country. 

A number of honorary awards were given out to deserving communication students for their various contributions in the media space. 

The Special Guest of Honour, Vice-Chancellor of  Pentecost University,  Mr. Prof. Kwabena Agyapong-Kodua, used the occasion to challenge students to be proactive in their choosing fields of study.

This according to him, will propel them to greater heights in life.

“Go all out in the pursuit of academic excellence. That is the only way to assuaging sufferings of victims of our society”, he opined.

A lecturer of the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ),  Mr. Martin Thompson Ntem also challenged the communication students to engage in more research works in order broaden their horizon in the media landscape.

According to him, constant research will distinguish them from their contemporaries in the same field.

“A wise man once said, it is good to engage in reading because it has the potential of your intellectual capability “, he added.

In the competitive categories, Stephen Bernard Donkor of GIJ came up top as the Best Student In Online Journalism and Student TV Host of the Year for his demonstrated commitment to work, high sense of professionalism, upholding the ethics of the profession Tv hosting, comprehensive documentaries on assault cases and writing of intelligent news and opinion stories in championing the welfare of the vulnerable, journalists & students.

He is an Author & a prolific Feature Writer; a pacesetter, innovative and taking up challenges. 

Shortly after winning the award, he used the opportunity to express his profound gratitude to God saying he takes inspiration from the bible and lauded the Organizers of the Awards Scheme, Sky Infinity Group for putting together as an amazing event in honour of deserving communication students. “I am overwhelmed by this and appreciate the efforts of the organisers”, he noted.

He thanked the Organizers of the Award Scheme for their hard work in these difficult times and expressed appreciation to the many (through votes and prayers) that were instrumental in bestowing upon him this honour and recognition.

“I would want to dedicate this all important Award to Mr. Ernest Asante Wiafe, Mr. John Wesley Bessey, Mr. Alex Mireku and Amanda Atunah whose magnificent impact by way of sharing my works on all Social Media Platforms made it possible. May God richly bless you”, he added. 

“This will forever go down memory lane. Another win for GIJ” he expressed.
