The Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Professor Frimpong Boateng, has rejected claims that the fight against illegal mining (Galamsey) has been a massive failure, adding that the campaign has so far recorded a 70 % success rate .
Speaking to journalists after President Nana Akufo- Addo delivered this year’s State of the Nation Address in Parliament on Thursday , the world- acclaimed heart surgeon said the the galamsey fight cannot be described as a total failure and that the positives outweigh the negatives.
The fight against illegal mining appears to have hit a snag following corruption allegations leveled against the Inter-Ministerial Committee tasked to spearhead the process. Prof Frimpong Boateng is Chairman of the Committee .
He debunked corruption claims adding that he has not misconducted himself as a government official as being alleged in some quarters. He said he has done so much for the country, recounting how he “singlehandedly” put up the Cardio Center at Korle Bu without a pesewa from government.
