Fisheries Association kicks against attempt to merge sector with Agric Ministry

Members of the Ghana Inshore Fisheries Association, a member of the National Fisheries Association Ghana (NAFAG), are urging President Akufo- Addo and that of the NPP government, to as a matter of urgency, reconsider any plans to merge the Fisheries Ministry and that of the Agriculture Ministry

Speculations are rife that President Akufo -Addo intends to merge some ministries under his government particularly the Agricultural Ministry, and the Fisheries Ministry.

However, President of the Inshore Fisheries Association, Joseph Nii Armah Quaye, is kicking against such move.

According to him, the Fisheries sector is already facing serious challenges which need to to be addressed.

He said eventhough they are not oblivious of calls for the president to cut down the size of his ministries,, merging the Fisheries Ministry and that of the Agric Ministry under one body, will spell great doom for both sectors.

He said, besides the inherent challenges bedeviling the marine fisheries sector, the aquaculture development sector which is an important component in addressing Ghana’s sustainability drive in the industry, is still nascent in nature, requiring a high ministerial level police management regime.
