First Lady rallies support for the poor and vulnerable

Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo, the First Lady, has called for increased support for the poor and the vulnerable to make things better for them.

The church, corporate bodies and individuals, should accept to work together to create a society where the needs of the poor received priority attention.

The First Lady was speaking at a thanksgiving and mini-harvest of the Women’ Fellowship of the Manet Chapel, Accra Ridge Church.

As part of the event, the Fellowship made donations to the LEKMA Hospital, the Autism Centre and some Orphanages in and outside Accra.

Mrs. Akufo-Addo said the act of giving to charity and supporting the needy was biblical and “very pleasing to God”.

She quoted from the scriptures “Matthew 25:34-36” and said giving was a good thing to do by believers, especially, Christians – to earn a place in heaven.

“Then the King will say to those on His right hand, Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world, for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave me drink; I was a stranger and you took me in;

I was naked and you clothed me; I was sick and you visited me; I was in prison and you came to me.”

This, she said, “clearly gives us, what Christ requires of us as children of God. We are to extend a helping hand to those who need us.

“Indeed, it is good to pray; Jesus himself said men ought to pray and not faint and as women we know how to fight our battles on our knees.”

The First Lady point out that all Christian activities were important, “nevertheless Jesus wants us to be our brother’s keeper”.

She therefore praised the Fellowship for prioritising the care for the vulnerable in society.

“You have kept faith with the greatest commandment to love the Lord our God with all your heart and with all your soul, mind and to love your neighbour as yourself", she added.
