Fear grips residents of Ahafo Kenyasi over uncovered and unfenced galamsey pits

Residents of Kenyasi in the Asutifi North District of the Ahafo Region are living in fear over uncovered and unfenced galamsey Pits in Akantansum, a suburb of the Community.
Reports indicate that galamsey activities is on the rise in Kenyasi and as a result of that, the residents of Akantansum, a community in Kenyasi are calling on Government, EPA, Inter- Ministerial Committee on Mining, Minister of Lands and Natural Resources to come to their aid and address the issue.
According to the residents, a four (4) Bedroom self-contained recently caved in due to the  activities of galamsey, a situation that has caused their apprehension.
The Assemblyman of Akantansum Electoral Area, Nana Boamah in an interview said all plans to retrieve the contractor to cover the sites has proved futile.
Mr Kwaku Boateng also shared his sad story of how he lost is four(4) bed bedroom self-contained in the area due to the activities of illegal mining (Galamsey).
