Election Petition: Mahama lauds legal team, star witnesses

The 2020 Presidential candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has lauded his legal team and his witnesses in the 2020 election petition.

The Supreme Court, presided over by the Chief Justice, Justice Anin Yeboah, today, Thursday 4th March 2021 ruled that the Electoral Commission (EC’s) declaration of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the winner of the December 7, 2020 presidential election is in order.

During the final verdict of the election petition, the supreme court by a unanimous decision dismissed the election petition brought before it by Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2020 elections, John Dramani Mahama.

Presenting the verdict, Chief Justice Kwesi Anin-Yeboah, who led the seven-member panel, said the petitioner has not produced any evidence to rebut the presumptions created by the publication of CI 135.

“The petitioner has not produced any evidence to rebut the presumptions created by the publication of CI 135. We are therefore of no reason to order a rerun. We accordingly dismiss the petition,” the Chief Justice said in the judgment.

Speaking to the media at his Cantonments office in Accra, Former President John Dramani Mahama described his lead counsel,  Tsatsu Tsikata as a colossus of a legal mind.

According to him, although they may not have been successful, their hard work will not go unheralded.

“We achieved an impressive showing in the last election despite the obsence abuse of incumbency, we can be produced we did our best”, he added.
