Edward Kufuor files for Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency seat

A Business tycoon and Agriculturist, Edward Agyekum Kufuor says he has what it takes to transform the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency.

Mr. Edward Kufuor who is also the second son of former President John Agyekum kufour said this when he filed his nomination form at the constituency’s Dzorwulu office on Sunday December 23, 2018.

He said, he is optimistic with the first hand training from his father, he will not only be capable of bringing development to the people but give the constituents permanent solutions to their problems.

Asked what would distinguish his leadership, Agyekum Kufuor highlighted the three keys that have consistently underpinned his career: Service, Strategy and Solutions.

His vision is solution focused – “We already know all the problems – let’s fix them” he emphatically states.

“I have had the opportunity to sit at my father’s feet and watch what he has done and as a good son I expect to follow. I am thankful he is still alive to give me insight, so I don’t see how I can come in and not do what is expected. In fact, look at our track record, consider what NPP has done for this constituency and hat the late Agyarko also achieved. Looking at all this work done why won’t it be possible for the NPP to retain the seat.”

Speaking to reporters after submitting his form Mr. Agyekum Kufuor also known as Chief Kufuor said he was not only going to win against his party opponents but other aspirants from the various political parties.

Mr. Agyekum Kufuor was part of seven aspirants who went to the party’s headquarters to pick a form for the constituency.

He will be contesting the likes of Madam Victoria Esinam Ansah Offei, Assembly Member for Legon Electoral Area, Mr. Richard Joojo Obeng, Deputy Chief Executive of the National Youth Authority, and Nana Wereko-Ampim Opoku.

His form together with the filing fee of ten thousand Ghana cedis, (GH₵ 10,000) was submitted to the NPP Dzorwulu electoral area chairman, secretary and treasurer in the presence of chairman of the elections committee Peter Mac Manu.

The Ayawaso West Wuogon seat became vacant in November following the untimely death of Emmanuel Kyeremateng Agyarko.

The NPP have, as per the party’s constitution, constituted a 5-member elections committee chaired by Peter MacManu to supervise the vetting of the nominees.

Rev. Edward Agyekum Kufuor files Parliamentary Candidate nomination for Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency

Rev. Edward Agyekum Kufuor, the second son of His Excellency, former President John Agyekum Kufuor, ended days of speculation today by officially filing his nomination for Parliamentary Candidate for the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency at the New Patriotic Party (NPP) constituency office in Dzorwulu.

The Ayawaso West Wuogon seat became vacant late last month due to the unfortunate and untimely demise of Hon. Emmanuel Kyeremateng Agyarko.

The NPP have, as per the party’s constitution, constituted a 5-member elections committee chaired by Hon. Peter MacManu to supervise the vetting of the nominees.

Rev. Edward Agyekum Kufuor hails from one of Ghana’s prominent political families. His father, former President John Agyekum Kufuor who recently celebrated his 80th birthday, was Ghana’s president from 7th January 2001 to 7th January 2009.

Rev. Edward Agyekum Kufuor has maintained a low political profile up until this time and surprised many with his candidacy.

A Computer Science, Business Management concentration graduate (Dillard University, USA), Agyekum Kufuor ventured early into the world of business and has built an extensive network of local and international partners in sectors including agriculture, energy and the services industry.

As a business man who has weathered several challenges over the years, he firmly believes that economic growth is achieved by intentional and strategic investment in scalable businesses to create local employment.

He is a successful Agriculturist, single handedly providing employment to over 140 people.

Rev. Edward Agyekum Kufuor is widely recognized as a leading actor and has spoken extensively about the need to invest in the burgeoning performing arts sector of the Ghanaian economy.

He is also an ordained reverend minister and attests that it was this calling 10 years ago that revealed his passion for and connection to the youth.

“It was only when I accepted my call into ministry that I fully recognized and embraced my calling to the youth” he is quoted as saying.

Having been tested by numerous challenges, he now views every challenge as an opportunity to build capacity, generate innovative solutions and develop resilience.

In responding to the needs of the youth, he co-founded Nketsia, an organization that provides business advisory and mentoring to over 20,000 young entrepreneurs nation-wide.

As a Youth Advocate, he is passionate about holistically empowering young people to fulfil their potential through mentoring and philanthropic support.

Asked what would distinguish his leadership, Agyekum Kufuor highlighted the three keys that have consistently underpinned his career: Service, Strategy and Solutions.

Encouragement to take a political step came from various segments of society such as the youth as well as his peers in business and politics.

Business, pastoring and acting have already given him platforms to influence, mentor and highlight societal issues. In recognition of the numerous challenges facing our communities, however, he recognized the greater potential to effect change through the legislature by building consensus and working with all key stakeholders.

“I’ve come to appreciate that politics provides a platform like no other to address some of the pressing issues faced by our youth – who often have no voice” he shared. “Filing this nomination is an opportunity to serve the party and our community on a greater scale” he added.
