Don't marry men without toilet facilities – Sanitation Minister

The Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Mrs. Cecilia Dapaah, has asked young women to reject the marriage proposals of men who have no decent toilet facilities in their homes.

The minister, who was speaking at the Ministry of Information, as part of an engagement with the media on Tuesday, 23 April 2019 in Accra, said it was undignifying for people, especially women, to be put in a position where they cannot have access to decent toilet facilities.

Mrs. Dapaah said: "When your facility breaks down, please invest some money to maintain and reconstruct or rehabilitate it".

“.Sanitation gives all of us dignity, especially we the women, and so, I entreat all young ladies: if you’re marrying and the man doesn’t have a toilet in the home, please don’t agree.” She stated.

She also stated that poor sanitation in the country causes the Nation 290 million dollars annually..

Madam Cecelia revealed that 75% of solid waste generated in the Greater Accra region has been properly managed where the remaining 25% is being worked on.

Madam Dapaah. however, said that sanitation guards will  from July this year will be deployed to the various district assemblies to put checks to any attitude that seeks to endanger lives in the community.
