Dagbon Outdoors New Yaa-Naa Today

Traditional rulers of the Dagbon enclave has this morning commenced the coronation of the recently selected Yaa-Naa, Abubakar Mahama II at the old Gbewaa palace in Yendi.

Thousands of residents from near and afar have joined the installation process. The President of the republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo and former President John Mahama have arrived for the coronation.

President for the National House of Chiefs, Togbe Afede IVX has also arrived in Yendi for the coronation.

The three eminent chiefs who mediated in the Abudu, Andani impasse are also expected to be present at the coronation.

Yaa-Naa Abukari II was the paramount chief of the Savulugu traditional area, he is the son of Yaa-Naa Mahama II and a grandson of Yaa-Naa Andani II. 

He was born in 1939 by Queen Duhili, Ayishetu, daughter of Kulun-Naa A u Kari. In accordance with Dagbon traditional system which requires a prince to go through a promotional process before he becomes Yaa-Naa, the new Yaa-Naa was first appointed to Kpunkpuno skin, then to the gate skin of Savulugu in 2011 from where he rose to the kingship of Dagbon, known as Yani.
