Curfew imposed on Chereponi and Saboba Townships

The Minister for the Interior, has on the advice of the Northern Regional Security Council and by Executive Instrument, imposed a 1600-hours-to-0700 hours-curfew on Chereponi and Saboba

Townships and their environs in the Northern Region, effective, Thursday, 3rd January, 2019.

A statement issued by the Ministry in Accra, said the imposition of the curfew followed the outbreak of violence in the towns arising from clashes between two ethnic groups- Konkombas and Chokosis.

“Government continues to urge Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth and people of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them as well as to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace in the area,” it said.

“Meanwhile, there is a total ban on all persons in the afore-mentioned communities and its environs from carrying arms, ammunition or any offensive weapon and any persons found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted”.
