COVID-19: SAT Foundation sensitise persons at Kaneshie Market

The Samuel Amo Tobbin (SAT) Foundation in collaboration with the Entrance University Hospital on Thursday sensitised persons at the Kaneshie Market on COVID-19 and its prevention.
The persons include drivers, bus conductors (Mates), food sellers, and other market workers.
The SAT Foundation also donated about 200 branded face masks by Priority Insurance, which is also a subsidiary of the Tobinco Group of Companies to the drivers and food sellers.
Educating the people on how to stop the spread of COVID-19, a Midwife at the Entrance University Hospital, Emelia Anakwah urged the public to desist from wearing the face masks wrongly.
Although people were seen in masks, she noticed that they were not wearing it right.
While a few covered their nose and mouths, some only covered their mouths or placed the masks under their chin.
For some people, she noticed they kept it at their chin to avoid the police from arresting them while others do not wear it at all.
“You are not doing anyone harm, you are doing yourself. If you wait till you see the police before wearing your masks, you are deceiving yourself,” she said.
Emelia Anakwah also realised that some people wear the re-usable masks without changing them, washing them or properly keeping them.
She urged each and everyone to get at least three washable face masks and change it often.
She also identified that because of stigmatisation, people keep quiet when they are told they have COVID-19 and therefore end up spreading it.
She therefore cautioned the public against stigmatisation.
For her part, the Executive Director for SAT Foundation, Mrs Harriet Asante noted that although government was doing enough to stop the spread of COVID-19, it behoves on Non-governmental organisations to support the government, hence, the sharing of the face masks and sensitisation.
Although the SAT Foundation has already sensitised persons at Malata Market, the Society for the Socially Disadvantaged (Kaneshie Home) and the Kaneshie market, Mrs Harriet Asante said the Foundation will continue to sensitise most of the markets moving forward.
She also called on all persons to at least ensure their re-usable face masks are kept well.
