Cephas Kojo Asimadi, security expert and Head of Operations at E-vent Security Services, has asked the heads of the Operation Covid Safety to provide civilians hotlines they can call to report brutalities meted to them.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo announced a full lockdown of some parts of the country namely Accra, Tema, Kumasi and Kasoa for two weeks.
“People in the affected areas must stay at home in the next two weeks. If you must go out, it should be to get essentials, go to the bank or to use a public toilet”, Akufo-Addo said.
The Ghana Police Service (GPS), The Ghana Armed Forces, The Ghana Immigration service (GIS), and the Bureau of National Investigation (BNI) were mandated to form a joint internal security to enforce the lockdown.
After the lockdown took effect, some videos allegedly capturing military personnel brutalizing innocent civilians have gone viral.
Commenting on the alleged brutalities on Atinka AM Drive Thursday with host Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka, Cephas Kojo Asimadi, asked the government to provide short codes through which they can report brutalities.
“Before Covid 19 there were some complaints hot lines the police were using. If those hot lines are still active, let’s make it available to the public so that persons who have been abused can call and file such reports,” he said.
Alternatively, Cephas Kojo Asimadi suggested that the joint internal security force can make available a reserved number dedicated to reporting Covid-19 brutalities as well as officers not exercising their duties as they should.
