COVID-19: New Variant not in Ghana- Akufo-Addo

The President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has stated that the new variant of the coronavirus disease has not been detected in Ghana unlike the western world who have been hit hard by it.

During his 21st update on measures taken against the COVID-19 pandemic in Ghana, he said the Ghana Health Service is monitoring closely and therefore will advice government on the way forward.

President Akufo-Addo said as of 1st January 2021, there were 879 active cases out of which 18 are severely ill.

So far, he said 674,812 tests have been conducted of which about 55,220 tested positive.

He noted that 336 deaths have been recorded.

He said the above data is a relatively welcome data compared to other countries in the world, urging Ghanaians to thank God for keeping us.

Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo urged Ghanaians to continue to adhere to the safety protocols to ensure a complete fight against the pandemic.
