Coronavirus lockdown: Over 400 people arrested

About 406 persons have been arrested for flouting the lockdown rules and regulations, the Ghana Police Service has revealed.
Out of the number, over 248 have been released on bail, over 103 are in police custody, while over 41 have been arraigned for court.
According to the ACP Lydia Donkor, Director Legal and Prosecution, despite government’s directives including the lockdown, ban on social gatherings amongst others to stop the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), people are still have social gathering including parties, funerals and weddings.
Speaking at a press briefing, she advised the public to comply with rules and regulations to avoid being arrested and prosecuted.
She also warned the public not to engage in resistance with the security agencies when they turn them away on the road, adding that such persons, including those who flout the rules will be prosecuted and charged with at least a fine of GHS12,000 to GHS60,000 or serve a term of four years imprisonment or both.
