Confirmed countries with coronavirus cases in Europe

The spread of new coronavirus cases across the globe underlined the continued risk of a worldwide pandemic.
Globally, at least 80,000 people have been diagnosed with the illness.
Below are countries that have confirmed coronavirus cases

  • Italy – 400

12th person has died in northern Italy of coronavirus, while the number of confirmed cases has risen to 400.

  • Germany – 21

Seven new cases were found in Germany across three states, bringing the country’s total to 21.

  • UK – 13

The UK has started random tests for coronavirus on flu patients to have an early warning system in place in case the outbreak becomes more widespread, a senior health official said after 13 cases were confirmed

  • France – 18

France reported three new infections, including one new death, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 18 and the death toll to two.

  • Austria – 2

Two people have been tested positive for the coronavirus in Austria, the authorities reported on Tuesday. These are the first cases in the country after the outbreak of the virus in northern Italy.

  • Croatia – 2

A second case of coronavirus infection was confirmed in Croatia overnight. The person was in close contact with the person identified as the first case, and a third person who was in contact has initially tested negative, the head of the Fran Mihaljević hospital for infectious diseases, Alemka Markotić, said on Wednesday.

  • Spain – 2

An individual has tested positive for the coronavirus in the Valenciana Community in eastern Spain.
Health officials have confirmed that the patient has been isolated at a hospital in Castellon.
The total number of confirmed cases rose to 2.

  • Russia – 2

Two Russian citizens from a quarantined cruise ship have been diagnosed with the new coronavirus, bringing the total number of infected Russian nationals to three, Russia’s Embassy in Japan said Thursday.

  • Denmark – 1

Denmark has confirmed its first coronavirus infection in a man who recently returned from a ski holiday in the Lombardy region in northern Italy, the Danish Health Authority said on Thursday.
After testing positive on Wednesday night, the man was put in isolation in his own home together with his wife and son, who both tested negative for the virus.

  • Belgium – 1

Belgium has confirmed the first case of the new coronavirus in its territory, local media reported on Tuesday. The patient is one of nine Belgian citizens who were evacuated from Wuhan, China on Sunday.

  • Finland – 1

A second confirmed coronavirus case has been diagnosed in Finland, health authorities said.
The female Finnish patient had recently visited the city of Milan in Italy.
She is being treated at the Helsinki University Hospital. The woman had a fever but was reported to be doing well and had only been in contact with two other people since arriving back in Finland on the weekend, public broadcaster YLE reported.

  • Sweden – 2

The Swedish Ministry of Health and Social Affairs said in a statement on Wednesday that the second coronavirus disease (COVID-19) case was confirmed in the country after a citizen who has recently visited northern Italy got infected with the virus.

  • Switzerland – 1

A 70-year old man tested positive for the coronavirus in the southern canton of Ticino, on the border with Italy, Swiss health authorities said on Tuesday (Feb 25), confirming its first case.
“The infected person was in Italy about 10 days ago and participated in an event near Milano,” the Swiss health ministry said in a statement.

  • Greece – 1

Greece has confirmed its first coronavirus case, the health ministry said.
The patient is a 38-year-old Greek woman who had travelled from an area of northern Italy, said Sotiris Tsiodras, a representative of the Ministry of Health.

  • Norway – 1

Norway’s Public Health Agency said that one person had tested positive for coronavirus and was being kept isolated at home, in what was the country’s first confirmed case.

  • Georgia – 1

Georgia reported the first case of coronavirus in the country, the health minister said.
Ekaterine Tikaradze said that a Georgian citizen, who was travelling from Iran, crossed the border from neighbouring Azerbaijan.
“He was immediately taken to hospital from the border checkpoint,” Tikaradze said.

  • North Macedonia – 1

A woman who recently arrived from Italy is North Macedonia’s first confirmed case, the country’s health minister said on Wednesday.
“The patient tested positive for coronavirus … She is the first patient in North Macedonia to have tested positive for this pathogen,” Health Minister Venko Filipce said.
The woman, who sought medical help early on Wednesday, drove to North Macedonia from Italy in a van. All other passengers from the van are undergoing tests, Filipce said.

  • Pakistan – 2

Pakistan’s Health Minister Zafar Mirza confirmed the first two cases of coronavirus in the country.
“Both cases are being taken care of according to clinical standard protocols and both of them are stable,” Mirza wrote on Twitter.
“No need to panic, things are under control. I will hold press conference tomorrow on return from Taftan.”

  • Estonia – 1

The first case of confirmed Novel Coronavirus in Estonia was found on Wednesday evening, social affairs minister Tanel Kiik (Center) said Thursday morning.

  • Iraq – 9

Iraqi authorities in the country’s northern governorate of Kirkuk yesterday suspended schools and universities across the province after detecting four confirmed new cases of coronavirus. The total number of confirmed cases rose to 9

  • South Korea – 1,261

South Korea has reported 115 new cases, bringing the total to 1,261, according to Korea’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
KCDC said the 169 coronavirus cases announced earlier included a US soldier.

  • Australia – 23

Australia has had 23 cases of the coronavirus but has managed to head off widespread transmission.

  • Japan – 1

A man in his 80s died in Tokyo after catching the new coronavirus, Japan’s public broadcaster NHK said, citing a government source.
This was Japan’s third fatality from the coronavirus, excluding those who were on the cruise ship “Diamond Princess”, NHK said.

  • USA – 1

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is investigating what could be the first case of novel coronavirus in the United States involving a patient in California who neither recently traveled out of the country nor was in contact with someone who did.

  • Brazil – 1

Brazil’s government confirmed that a 61-year-old Brazilian man who travelled to Italy this month has Latin America’s first confirmed case of the contagious new coronavirus.

  • Iran -139

Iran’s state television says 19 more people were killed by the coronavirus and the total number of confirmed cases rose to 139
Lebanon – 2
Lebanon announced its second coronavirus case Wednesday.
“The new case of a woman who was on a 7-day religious visit to Iran, and returned to Lebanon on February 20, on the same plane as the first case on board,” health officials said in a statement.

  • Kuwait – 25

Kuwait’s health ministry said that the number of people diagnosed with coronavirus in the country rose to 25 after 13 more cases were confirmed, the state news agency reported.

  • Bahrain – 26

Bahrain’s number of infections rose to 26 after three Bahraini women who arrived from Iran were confirmed to have the coronavirus, according to the health ministry.

  • Algeria – 1

A 61-year-old Italian, who arrived in Algeria on February 17 from Italy, tested positive for the coronavirus, Algeria’s health ministry said. He is being monitored in the southern Ouargla area, the ministry said.

  • Singapore – 2

A Chinese man infected with coronavirus and his wife have been charged in Singapore for lying to health authorities investigating whether they had passed the illness to others, officials said.
The couple faces a fine of up to $7,150 and six-month imprisonment if convicted.
