Baby harvesting: “Nurses involved not our members”-GNRMA

President of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association, Madam Perpertual Ofori-Ampofo, has disclosed that nurses involved in the baby selling saga are not members of the Association.

This follows an investigation conducted by the Association’s mother body Nurses and Midwives Council.

The Economic and Organised Crimes Office (EOCO) in a joint operation with the Medical and Dental Council (MDC) Ghana arrested 8 health professionals over baby harvesting and trafficking in Accra.

The two organizations have been undertaking a joint investigation over a period of time following a tip-off from a taxi driver upon a conversation between two women who boarded his taxi.

In the said joint operation,it was alleged that some Nurses are said to be involved providing assistance to their masters.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Atinka Media Villages’ Vincent Kwofie, Madam Ampofo said, even though those persons were at the hospitals providing assistance to the doctors involved, they are not their members.

She said, per their investigations, the said nurses were identified as Health Assistants.

“After hearing the news in the media, we quickly picked the names of the Nurses who were involved and contacted our mother Union- Nursing and Midwifery Council for an investigation into the matter to confirm whether the Nurses and Midwives were fully registered or not”.

“But at the end of investigations, it came out that, the alleged nurses were not our members ”she said.

She called on all Nurses and Midwives to abide by their ethics and work professionally.
