Audio: Taifa robbery ‘hero’ recounts ordeal

Atinkaonline.com Wednesday morning broke the story of two armed robbers who had robbed a mobile money vendor in Taifa.

The armed men whose names were given as Benjamin Dogbey, 22, and Ahmed Awal, 32 attacked a mobile vendor few hours after opening his shop.

An eyewitness mentioned that after the armed men had robbed the MoMo vendor, a driver who also witnessed the incident gave the two thugs a hot chase.

The armed men who were on a motorbike upon sensing danger, shot at the driver of the Pontiac vibe several times but he managed to knock them down the one of the armed men. The driver however crashed down a high tension pole knocking another lady in the process.

Luck, however, evaded the second robber as he was arrest later on with the help of a wild dog called Rasta, who joined the chase. The dog reportedly followed the suspect into a gutter, trapped him in the process until he was picked up by the Kwabenya Police Command.

The Driver of the Pontiac Vibe car, Samuel Amuzu, who saved the situation was in the studios of Atinka FM to narrate the incident.

Contrary to earlier reports that the owner of the Pontiac Vibe owned the MoMo shop, Samuel Amuzu revealed that he had only gone to the shop to see his friend who happened to be the owner of the MoMo shop.

Samuel Amuzu recalled that the armed men came to the shop 30 minutes after arriving at his friend's MoMo shop. He noted that one of the armed men pulled a gun immediately they entered the shop and snatched over GHC12,000 and recharged cards from the owner of the shop.

He said he quickly rushed to his car and started chasing the armed men who  fired shots at him.

“I followed the armed men with my car until I got close at a point, they started firing at me. I mustered courage and hit their motor bike. The armed man behind the motor bike lost control of his gun whereas my vehicle summersaulted. I struggled with the one on the ground but the other one bolted but was later apprehended by the police… they fired shots at me but, it’s just by the grace of God that I am alive,” he narrated.

Kwabenya District Crime Officer, DSP Maxwell K. Sarpong who spoke to Atinkaonline after the incident, asked residents of Kwabenya not to live in fear and that the police will put all measures in place to get rid of miscreants in the area.
