Atinka TV's Regina Asamoah adjudged Female Journalist of the Year

Atinka TV’s News Editor, Ms Regina Asamoah has been named the Female Journalist of the Year 2019 at the 25th Ghana Journalists Association(GJA) awards.

She also received a special award for COVID-19 coverage with her most watched documentary, “COVID-19 and the Aged”.

Ms Regina Asamoah again was given a special recognition by Plan International Ghana for her excellent reporting on girls issues.

This particular award which falls under the Child Protection category, came with a medal, a plaque and a citation that read, “Plan Ghana is pleased to present this citation to Regina Asamoah of Atinka Television for your outstanding and courageous reporting on the horrific and vicious challenges that children, especially girls, face in secret in Ghana.”

It also read,”You indeed have proven to be worthy of this recognition.”

On the night, the News Editor bagged three awards for herself and the entire Atinka Media Village.

The Female Journalist of the year, Ms. Regina Asamoah, thanked God, her family, her past mentors, colleagues and the entire Atinka Media Village for their immense support throughout her career as a journalist.

“I feel humbled by these awards. I thank God for his mercies in all these years of my journalism career. To God be the Glory. A special thank you to my family ( Mr. Asamoah, Madam Alberta, Maame Korea, Elizabeth, Albert , Janet, Hilda, Emma and Uncle Ike) who have supported me all these years. My heartfelt gratitude goes to my first News Editor Mr. Samuel McCarthy who shaped my writing and reporting skills when I started my Journalism career,” she said.

She also acknowledged the immense support of her Fromer Managing News Editor, Francis Sasu (FS) of blessed memory.

She dedicated the special recognition from Plan International to the late mother of a victim of defilement whose case is still at the court.

“The Plan International Special Recognition Award for excellent reporting in Girls Issues is dedicated to the memory of the Mother ( Dianah Sowah) of the abused girl who allowed me into their home to project the plight of her daughter who was defiled at age 11 and got partially paralyzed. May her soul rest in peace. Since 2015, I have worked on this story and hopefully in November, 2020 justice would be served,” she said.

For the Special Award on Covid-19 Coverage, Ms. Regina Asamoah dedicated it to all older persons who suffered untold hardship during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“I know my story on their plight brought some relief to them,” she added.

Profile of Ms. Regina Asamoah

Ms. Regina Asamoah started her journalism profession in 2009 at the then Sena Radio in Ashaiman as an attachment student and subsequently retained as permanent staff in the News Department.


Starting as a reporter and producer, she rose through the ranks to become the Acting Head of News due to her versatility, hard work and commitment.
She also worked as a sub- editor for the Wir Newspaper ( a catholic newspaper) for a two-year period.


Since she joined the Atinka Media Village, in 2015, Ms. Asamoah has undoubtedly been one of the stations’ pivots as far as broadcast journalism is concerned.
