Assembly man fined GHC450 for open defecation

 

The Assembly Member for Sibir Seemed Electoral Area in the Central Region, Samuel Cleran, who was arrested Thursday for defecating publicly, has been fined  GHC450

Four offenders were also fined the same amount each by the Komenda Edina Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) Municipal Assembly in the Central Region.

Alex Damptey , Environmental Science Officer for KEEA,  said the offenders were fined for flouting the assembly’s bye laws .

According to the U.N, 2.5 billion people do not have access to toilet facilities, most of which are in developing countries like Ghana.

Ghana has about 85.7 percent of its population without decent toilets, and this equals about 23 million people, according to the report.
