Arrested NDC men in Asawase not armed robbers – Kwame Zu

The Ashanti Regional National Democratic Congress (NDC) Secretary, Kwame Zu, says members of the NDC who were arrested in Asawase are not armed robbers.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command embarked on a special police operation and arrested a number of suspected criminals to assist with police investigation in response to recent cases of armed robberies within the metropolis.

The Command says it acted on intelligence in respect of suspected criminals whose names came up during investigation and conducted swoops within the metropolis and apprehended same.

The suspects were taken to the Suame and Central Police Stations to assist the police investigation.

Subsequent to the arrests, some persons, who claim to be members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Asawase Constituency, besieged the Suame Police Station and demanded the release of these suspects.

The men reportedly attacked the police officers on duty, verbally and physically.

The Police officers on duty exhibited extreme professionalism and managed to bring the situation to normalcy without any incident.

Speaking on Atinka FM’s AM Drive with Ekourba Gyasi, Ashanti Regional National Democratic Congress (NDC) secretary, Kwame Zu, explained that the Police conducted a swoop and cannot conclude that the arrested persons are armed robbers.

Although he confirmed that the arrested guys are indeed members of the Ashanti Regional NDC, they are not armed robbers.

“ We were at the Police station and the Police showed us videos of the purported crimes by our members. But we realized that the person in the video is not our member”, he said.

The Police has since called on persons who besieged the police station to report to the Regional Police Command in their own interest latest 26th October 2020 at 0900hrs to assist police with investigation, without fail.
