Anyidoho’s 'treason' charge harsh, likely to change – Lawyer Nimako

A legal practitioner, Gary Nimako, has described the treason charge against the Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho, as harsh.

According to him, Anyidoho’s statement is more of “a threat to the security of the state” and not treason as he has reportedly been charged with.

The Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho was  Tuesday invited to the Police CID headquarters over his coup comments.

The police officers stormed the International Press Center Tuesday afternoon and marched Mr. Anyidoho to the CID headquarters after a brief confrontation.  Koku Anyidoho has reportedly been charged with treason.

In an interview with Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive, Mr. Nimako stated that although Anyidoho’s comments are highly unacceptable and misplaced, the statements itself may not amount to treason but rather a treat to the security of the state.

He asked the Police to be cautious of charges they proffer against alleged offenders.

“Sometimes when you give a wrong charge, the person might get off the hook in the court of law,” he added.
