Alcohol not solution to insomnia – Doctor

Medical Doctor and Chief Executive Officer for Rofika herbal hospital, Dr. Mary Ofei, has cautioned persons abusing alcohol as a solution to insomnia to desist from the act.

Insomnia is a sleep disorder . The condition can be short-term (acute) or can last a long time (chronic). It may also come and go.

Acute insomnia lasts from 1 night to a few weeks. Insomnia is chronic when it happens at least 3 nights a week for 3 months or more.

Speaking on Atinka FM’s AM Drive, Dr. Mary Ofei, said resorting to alcohol will only compound the situation and not help cure the insomnia.

Dr. Mary Ofei explained that people who use alcohol as an alternative drug to help them sleep at night tend to develop other complications.

“This is the problem! A lot of people think alcohol is the solution to insomnia but it’s not true. Alcohol can make you sleep for a while, but it cannot make you stay asleep and so the assertion that alcohol is the solution to insomnia is utterly wrong,” she explained.

Asked the appropriate meal which helps one to sleep well at night, Medical Doctor and Chief Executive Officer for Rofika Herbal Hospital, Dr. Mary Ofei noted that individuals have to find out meals that work better for them and then stick to them.

Citing beans and coffee, as examples, Dr. Mary Ofei said there are some people who find it difficult who take them.
