One thousand women from across the continent have converged at South Africa for the African Women in Dialogue Forum, to deliberate on women empowerment, peace and security.

The event is organised by the Zanele Mbeki Development Trust and runs from the 4th to the 8th of November 2019 under the theme, “Women’s Voice and Power as Agents of Change”.

The Event  co-ordinator, Linda Vilakazi, says the dialogue was started by key South African women who felt that there was no platform for African women to meet and engage on how to move the continent forward.

The event was launched last year November with a thousand women from 16 countries and it was successful.

This year 1000 women from 55 Countries in Africa are meeting for the first time to share ideas about how to empower women to make impact in their countries and communities.

Some of the delegates shared their stories and discussed how to break barriers to women empowerment in Africa including some cultural practices and religious doctrines which became barriers to the economic development of these African women.

The conference which also seeks to encourage networking amongst women across the continent however is still in session.
