Chairman of Parliamentary select committee on Sports,Youth and Culture, Honorable Alex Agyekum, has stated that the Black Stars players were not serious and committed to winning the AFCON.
Speaking to Seth Dadzie on Atinka Total sports MP for Mpohor constituency said “aside the government doing his part to help the team, If you look at the technical team, management and the playing body attitude and demeanor it seems we went there to add to the numbers, there was no urgency that, this players was going to win the cup for us, we were in Ghana having a false hope that the Black stars team was going to win the cup, if you look at the 24 teams who came for the AFCON tournament, and the matches I got the chance to watch, the demeanor of the other teams, from the blast of the whistle, they type of energy and the seriousness they attach to their play on the field, then you will know they mean business, but when you look at our team from day one, you will see that our players were not serious. There was one instance that we had a corner, and if you look at how our player was walking unconcern and how he was walking towards the ball, that is where I said to myself this team will fail us. We were lucky to have topped the group but to be honest it wasn’t the best of performance that got us there.” He ended
Ghanaians were all hopeful that the Black Stars will end the 37 years of trophy drought but Tunisians had other ideas as they eliminated Ghana on 5-4 on penalties after the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
