ADB hands over cash prize to 2019 Best National Farmer

Lead sponsor of the 35th National Farmers Day, Agricultural Development Bank (ADB), has handed over a cash prize of GHC 536,000 to the 2019 National best Farmer, Mr. Charles Gyamfi .

According to the Managing Director ADB, Dr. John Kofi Mensah, handing over the cash prize to Mr. Charles Gyamfi is in fulfillment of their pledge to assist farmers to expand their business and also increase employment in the Agriculture sector.

Dr. John Kofi Mensah observed that the ADB bank was happy with the Utilization plan they received from Mr. Gyemfi hence the need to support him.

“We have received the utilization plan from Mr. Gyamfi and we are happy to announce that the Bank is satisfied with the proposed plan,” he said.

Dr. John Mensah continued, “as part of the proposal plan, Mr. Gyamfi intends to construct a warehouse to store his farm produce, improve access roads to his farm through graveling and construction of drains and also employ additional 30 permanent staff. We believe the outlined projects are critical to the expansion of his business which as a Bank we will provide him with a dedicated relationship officer to ensure proper utilization of the money”.

Speaking further, Dr. John Mensah stressed on ADB commitment to support the Agriculture sector of the country.

“ADB remains committed to ensuring that the Agriculture sector continues to play a critical role in our economic growth” Mr. Mensah stated.

He observed that the ADB would continue to partner with the Agric Ministry to help implement programmes and projects that will improve the lives of farmers and fishermen.

“The Bank would continue to partner your Ministry to Implement programmes and projects aimed at modernizing Agriculture and improving the standards of living of farmers and fishers” Dr. John Kofi Mensah had said.

On his part, the Minister of Agric, Dr. Afriyie Owusu Akoto commended the ADB for their unflinching support they continue to assist his Ministry with.

“Agricultural Development Bank is for farmers not for traders. So please make sure that %100 of your monies go to our farmers,” he expressed.

2019 Award

Charles Gyamfi is a 58-year-old farmer from the Ahafo Region and was adjudged the 2019 National Best Farmer at a ceremony held in the Volta Regional capital, Ho.

Charles Gyamfi, who is from the Tano North District has been farming for the past 25 years, producing cocoa, cassava, maize, garden eggs and citrus fruits among others.

The father of five also rears cattle, goats and poultry. He owns five boxes of bee hives, fish ponds and mans over a hundred employees.

Talk about value addition, Mr. Gyamfi produces fruit juices with produce from his farm and the cassava serves as a rich ingredient for Gari which sells well in his community.
